Hunan Province, China

Hunan is located on the south bank of the Yangzi river. Dong Ting Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in China. The only terroir for genuine Jun Shan Silver Needle is an island in the middle of the lake. Only a very small amount of Jun Shan tea is produced each year, making it one of the rarest teas in China.

It is also reputed that Jun Shan was Chairman Mao's favourite tea. Perhaps he enjoyed its refreshing, sweet taste to soothe his tastebuds after eating traditional Hunan dishes, which are renowned for their liberal use of chillies.
