Taiwanese tea producers focus on making oolong teas. Outstanding black teas and a few green teas can also be found on this "beautiful island”, which is the meaning of Formosa, the name given to Taiwan by Portuguese traders.
The bulk of the tea produced in Taiwan is oolong tea and is considered by connoisseurs to be some of the finest oolong produced anywhere in the world.
Today, only about two percent of the island's famous exceptional tea produce makes it to being exported.
