Composed of high grade, tippy leaf. This is an outstanding cooked puerh - fragrant, balanced and harmonious.

*Based on 3g per serving, infused 4 times.

Appearance: Fine, almost dusty brown-grey strands of leaf.

Infusion: Rose-red initially, quickly turning a dark red-black, and eventually forming a glowing, translucent ebony liquor.

Aroma: Mellow and harmonious, with earthy scents sweetened with a little liquorice and clove spice

Taste: Fragrant hints of incense woods with an almost chocolatey aftertaste. No bitter and few challenging notes, ideal for beginners.

Infuse: 1-2 tbs for 15-30 seconds in near-boiling water

  • Great balance of cost vs quality

I was curious about Puerh tea being more expensive, but did'nt want to pay big bucks for a very aged one, such as 1970's (but I might yet try a sample of 1970's). When I tried this tea the flavour was very smooth, and seemed to have a very soothing effect, which was very pleasant. The flavour was very rich without being acrid, bitter or too tannic. It tasted sweet and mature. I have tried the 2003 uncooked version which is also lovely, but this cooked and older one I find is richer, and shows why aging makes a very satisfying puerh tea. Im sure the best one is the 1950's one if you are prepared to pay big bucks, but 1990's seems old enough and cheap enough to make a very satisfying puerh for the first timer.
