I've had many Gaiwans over the years. From low to high quality. Some great, some terrible. What you need to look for in a Gaiwan is size, shape, colour. This Gaiwan ticks those three for me. The lid fit is great, slightly imperfect leaving a small opening which is how it should be. Fits snug in its saucer without creating suction, and doesn't wobble. Also has a nice shape lip on the bowl for those that use the three finger technique.
Glaze has a slight tint of blue but is basically pure white which is perfect for framing and examining tea before its poured.
The overall quality is superb, its a medium thickness so suitable for all teas. Clearly its been high fired as it gives a nice crystal glass style ping when flicked.
If you dont own a Gaiwan you should, and this is a perfect example of a great one.
