Baojing Gold
An exceptional single garden, spring green tea, hand picked pre Qingming on the 14th March 2021. It captures the purest essence of the tenderest buds and leaves with a fresh green fragrance and layers of umami and meadow-sweetness.
Baojing Gold
保靖黄金茶
Selected from Ludong Mountain, sacred to the local Miao people, Baojing Gold is named after its origin, Baojing County in Hunan province, and the gold leafed cultivar from which it is traditionally made.
We first discovered Mr Long's Baojing Gold last year – in fact it turned out to be Tom, our Head of Tea's favourite tea from all of 2020. After falling for its sappy, refreshing and umami-rich character, Tom set out to taste loads more teas from the area and from around Hunan this spring, but none came close to what Long was producing.
Picked in early spring, it's made without the use of any pesticides or artificial fertilisers. With a mouthfeel like silk and a soft, milky character, you'll find notes of the freshest spring flowers and a standout umami finish.
- Cultivar - Huang Jin Cha
- Picked - Early Spring – March 14th 2021

- Nice teaBeing a massive tea lover I must have tried good few dozens of different type of teas over the years. I wanted to try something new and organic to spice up the life in the constant stream of lockdowns. So I bought this tea based on review. Yes, it is nice clean tea, but can't say it is special in my opinion. I'm not sure it warranties the special price tag it carries. There are plenty of other teas just as good as this one for he half of the price, if not less.

Thank you for your review, we are sorry to read you did not enjoy Baojing Gold as much as we’d have hoped. Depending on personal taste preferences, tea lovers can appreciate Baojing Gold differently. A couple of things to note - we always recommend using 70 degrees water, no hotter; and you could also try a longer than 3 minute infusion if you’d like a little more strength of flavour, without adding any bitterness.
Tom, our head of tea commented that when he sourced this tea, what made the Baojing Gold stand out above other spring green teas was the soft full texture and milky aromas - which might be a little unexpected from a green tea.
In wintry months more robust green teas can often be more satisfying, at this time of year, we’d recommend trying green teas such as Sencha or Dragon Well. Felicity, JING Customer Service. - Green GoldThe tea blind-sides you. At first the flavours seem subtle, but immediate, it’s a quiet heavy-hitter. It is hard to pin down without just saying it ‘tastes great’. The difficulty in explaining its profile is exactly why it stands out so much. It’s simply a green tea flavour I’ve never had before. It is not to strong or too weak; it’s perfectly balanced.
It’s certainly earned the price!
