Assam Breakfast Tea

As some have stated, batches appear to vary. Jing does not post the tea's grading, allowing them wiggle room as to what product you actually receive. Looking at the leaves, it's probably BOP. If Jing regards itself as a serious tea merchant, I would advise adding grades immediately.

I can confirm the JING Assam Breakfast loose leaf tea grades are GBOP and GFBOP.

The tea is blended once per year, so apart from small annual differences in crop, the tea is very consistent.

It’s always great to hear from customers with knowledge of tea grading. As I'm sure you are aware, leaf size is only one indicator of quality. We feel that taste is the most important factor to our customers and prioritise this when creating the blend.

This is my absolute favourite breakfast tea - nothing else comes near it! I’ve tried and been recommended many others however nothing else has the crisp and malty taste that Jing Assam breakfast tea has. Each year I stock up (this year I was dangerously low before the new stock arrived) and take advantage of the great offers around Black Friday. Won’t be buying any other tea again !

My husband is the tea drinker, I join for breakfast. First brew seemed tasteless to me. But the next morning , when I think it was brewed longer it was much improved. However, although my husband enjoys it, the cost against another high end tea we buy is not justified.

I tried this tea for the first time in a café in London and immediately fell in love with its rich flavor. I asked the café for the name of the tea and later found this website. The ordering process on the website was fast and convenient, but after brewing it, I realized that it's not the same tea that I had in the café. It has a completely different taste, more like cheap black tea from a regular store.

I tried this at a hotel in UAE and loved the full bodied taste first thing for breakfast. However not all batches tend to have the same strength. Overall I would still choose Jing tea over anything else.

Disappointed that the leaves this time are not as large as previously and the taste although strong has lost most of the previously great 'breakfast tea' taste.

Was so delighted with this tea when it arrived, I tried in in the evening. Bit of a mistake - it is strong, flavourful and malty, so I had 3 cups. Then could not sleep! Very much a morning pick me up, delicious and robust.

This tea is robust and full bodied. Deliciously strong, but not overly bitter. One for folks who like good, strong builders tea!

An excellent assam breakfast tea. I have sampled other brands and always come back to Jing’s assam breakfast for a well rounded and full flavoured strong pot of tea.

Full bodied and full flavoured a perfect blend for those who like me prefer a stronger tea . First tried the Assam blend at a hotel stay and absolutely loved it so just had to buy it. A morning staple I won't be without now.

The taste, aroma and freshness is absolutely amazing. This is just the best in the market. Will be buying more, as soon as mine is done. :)

I have been looking for quite some time for a full flavoured Assam tea. This hits all the marks. Full flavoured but not overpowering. Love it.

A frequent buyer of this tea as it’s the go to for breakfast. A true experience of flavours and a powerful taste.

My morning tea has to be perfect, it’s what gets me out of bed in the mornings. I love the Assam blend as it hits the spot - a perfect balance of flavour and strength. I’m a big fan of the loose tea and make sure I never run out. I even take it with me when staying with friends!

I don’t usually have Assam but after trying some out at my daughter’s house I’m converted and so bought myself the biggest bag!

I absolutely love this tea. I cannot start my day without it! I’m very particular about how I drink it - freshly boiled water in a bone China mug. You can taste the difference between this and other teas. It’s strong and robust but doesn’t leave a bitter aftertaste and it goes perfectly with my non-dairy (oat) milk too.

The Assam tea is a perfect balance of med-strong taste for a cup of tea in the morning. Highly recommended

I've tried hard to find a tea as good as this from a company that doesn't charge so much for postage! I've failed to date, so I'll keep buying for the moment. it's the lovely malty taste that does it for me every time.

My first taste of Jing breakfast tea was a treat for my taste buds.

This tea is the best loose leaf Assam that i have tried. It has a very aromatic, malty and refreshing taste.

I’m so, so happy I found this. It’s my gold standard. I’ve only tried the loose leaf in the 2 cup pot and keen to see what the tea bags are like for travel. Thank you to JING for not compromising and please never stop or change this tea. I don’t think I can go back to any another tea - I’m scared to say this but it’s pretty perfect for me.

Very impressed, arrived yesterday, had a stronger cuppa this morning than usual and it still wasn't bitter. Bold but balanced flavours, looking forward to waking up to this tea.

This tea is pretty intense. I can see why one would usually have it for breakfast. I tried drinking it in the evening once, but it just didn’t seem appropriate. It says on the pack that it is ‘rich, malty and rousing’, and I can definitely taste the rousing. I still find the range of adjectives that it is OK to use when describing these teas quite amusing. This is quite a cunning, zippy, industrious tea, with plenty of spunk and a soupçon of leather sofa.

Never tried loose tea before but my first venture into the loose tea was the Assam Breakfast and all I can say is WOW.

Breakfast at Gidleigh Park, Chagford - a great 'hit' from a stunning cup of tea.
I had to ask what it was (though I have never before been inclined to do so).
"Assam breakfast from Jing", the charming waiter replied.
I've had repeat prescriptions ever since and use it at all time of day an night - to impress visitors!

Nice rich flavour and taste, too much of this tea and it would taste bitter and too strong but measured sensibly is a delight first thing in the morning.

Ive allways purchased assam breakfast tea. Its a nice rich taste just like tea should be. I will try one of the other teas, but assam is my favourite..

Wonderful double thickness cups surprisingly cool to the touch but keeps tea very hot. Nice teapot also for making two cups of very nice Assam tea. Very pleased. The little timer is most useful also - well done!

Quite simply the best breakfast tea I have ever come across. I use about 4 grams per cup, infused for 4-5 mins and drunk with milk. Makes getting up on a Monday morning much less arduous!

The Breakfast Assam has short, broken leaves, very small and pale chocolate in color. I steeped my leaves for about 3 minutes, using about 1.5 tablespoons for a 23 oz. pot and nearly boiling water. The leaves open up and unfurl to color the steeping tea a deep and rich amber. Its mellow, rounded scent I suppose could be described as malty. I found the flavor to be more to the slightly sweet and honeyish than the malty, but when I think of malty, I think of beer, and this wasn't beerlike to me at all. The color of the tea is gorgeous, full and dark, reminiscent of coffee. The scent of the tea is rich and the flavor is so rounded and easy to drink that I was hooked at once. I did taste the slightest bitterness as I finished my first cup, so I'm glad that I limited my steeping to 3 minutes. More would have been to excess, and I will knock 30 seconds off my first steeping of this tea next time around. I had one other great infusion from this tea, also steeped for 3 minutes, and then a weaker third infusion that nudged me to give up the leaves to the compost as the taste was expiring. I have to say that this naturally sweet, smooth and beautiful deep amber tea was really something wonderful. It would be delightful iced, and I expect that it might bring out a different set of flavor strengths. This tea opens up the world of black teas to me. The assam really impresses me as it is so without bitterness, and the flavor has a sweet fullness that I associate with perfectly ripe, completely in season fruit - like raspberries picked from backyard canes. Full and mellow, richly sweet. Delicious!
