Organic Darjeeling First Flush Supreme

This small batch of "clonal" style first flush 2020 was created exclusively for JING. We selected it very early this year before lockdown in the gardens, so it was produced when the conditions were perfect. Tea master Subroto Sen knows exactly what we were looking for, so produced a very tippy batch for us from the AV2 clone. This tippy nature and the great production conditions mean the tea is very floral and its syrupy character is emphasised. Overlooking the scenic Kangchenjunga mountains, the garden itself sits at an altitude of more than 1,000m, where a thick mist keeps the tea plants fully hydrated and protected from harsh sunlight.

  • Cultivar - Camellia sinensis var. sinensis
  • Picked - Spring
  • Oxidisation level - 30%

    Wonderfully peachy, perfect summer drinking

I'm new to real Darjeeling having always believed it to be a far darker, smokier tea than this light, fragrant long leafed first flush. Amber nectar, with peach and floral overtones. Refreshing afternoon tea but also delicious brewed and left to chill. I made a second pot from the once-brewed leaves, which I steeped in fresh fruits for a few hours and served ice cold.
