Hsinchu is home to excellent oolongs, grown at relatively low altitude

Situated at the north-east of the island, Hsinchu county ranges from coastal plains to mountaineous inland terrain. Growing on the foothills around 500m in elevation is one of Taiwan's tea treasures, Oriental Beauty Oolong. Production is centred around Beipu town and traditionally takes place in summer.

  • What to Look For

    Amazingly varied, but typical of high grade Oriental Beauty Tea - rusty brown and matte black leaf, scattered green flecks and twisted silver tips.

    Full, sweet and fruity with lychee, fruit baked in brown sugar.

    Vivid caramel brown tea infusion.

  • Taste

    Incredibly sweet and perfumed oolong tea with fragrant, lychee, ripe pear and pineapple.

The perfect cup

  • Measure 5g or 3tsp per cup (250ml)
  • Heat water to 100°C
  • Infuse tea for 3 minutes
  • You can infuse this tea up to 4 times
