Handmade Ceremonial Matcha Bowl

Handmade by Seigo Kato, this bowl is a beautiful example of Mino ware, one of the most ancient and popular style throughout Japan. This style is named after Mino city, at the earth of the Gifu prefecture, in the scenic Japanese Alps. This region is rich in kaolin – a key mineral in a potter’s soil. For this reason, first kilns were established in the region as soon as the Heian Period (794-1185). Mino ware grew increasingly popular during the Momoyama period (1573-1603), as tea ceremony became more widely practiced among the Japanese population. Many potters then emigrated to Mino, spreading the building of ceramics kilns in the mountains, which are still active today.

Each JING bowl is unique in its glazing and texture, embodying an identity of its own to be celebrated within your Matcha ceremony.
