The Origin Story
Our Matcha Latte is blended to predominantly express the persuasive umami flavour of the Yabukita cultivar (80%) complemented by the mellow character of the Okumidori cultivar (20%), both cultivated to flourish in Shizuoka soils . Together, they soften luxuriously with milk (or alternative milks) for an uplifting yet comforting infusion that is smooth, rich and yet still bursts with fresh flavour and clarity – the perfect balance and expression of Matcha.
Shizuoka is one of Japan’s largest green tea producing regions with nourishing, volcanic soils.
Translating to ‘Tranquil Hills’ the diverse plains of this Pacific coastline region are famed above others for their thick, velvety, and vegetal teas – specifically umami-rich flavours. Both cultivars in our Matcha Latte Grade blend were sourced from Shizuoka.
