Organic Dragon Well Supreme Green Tea
The Origin Story
China’s most famous tea, Dragon Well is also known as ‘Longjing’. During the Qing Dynasty it was declared an ‘imperial’ tea by the emperor and has remained in the spotlight ever since – nowadays, some grades of this tea fetch more money than gold per kg. With such a high price to its name, the risk of ‘fakes’ is prevalent throughout China but a genuine ‘Longjing’ can only come from protected areas within Hangzhou. The youngest, freshest buds are plucked in the spring before the Qingming festival and pan-fried by hand in dry, hot basins, giving the leaf its iconic ‘spear’ shape and sweet, nutty flavour. This process can be adopted by any tea producer throughout China, but it is the rich soils and terroir of the protected area of Hangzhou that imparts a rich, velvety- thickness and texture that is truly unique and cannot be faked.
Our Organic Dragon Well Supreme 2018 is a beautiful loose leaf green tea, from its authentic home in Hangzhou, China and with a clear expression of the true taste of Longjing: amazingly thick and smooth, singing with supreme chestnut notes from masterful processing.

Young, plump buds are picked early – pre-Qingming – for this tea.
This year’s crop comes from Mr Du’s ‘Tianmu’ organic garden in Hangzhou, with heavy forest cover and a beautifully clean environment also near to Thousand Island Lake – a truly scenic destination. The traditional Jiukeng cultivar from which this crop is made has its authentic home here in the ancient cultivation and thousands of years’ history of China’s most famous green tea.
