Sencha Reiwa Green Tea


The Origin Story

Translating as ‘beautiful harmony’, our Sencha Reiwa is made by tea master Ishiyama, who was honoured by being chosen to grow tea for newly crowned Japanese Emperor Naruhito in the first year of the Reiwa era. This historic occasion is a true testament to Ishiyama’s skills and experience, which are reflected in this outstanding tea.

Crafted in small batches, the tea is picked in the Spring and expertly steamed and rolled for its thick texture and intense umami taste.

The steaming of the tea marks the core difference between Chinese and Japanese teas. Steaming fixes the fresh green tea leaves, giving the infusion a sappy, spring-fresh flavour. A completely different tea experience to the pan-firing found in China.

We recommend preparing this tea the Senchadō way to get the most out of the leaves. Use more leaf (6g) per 125ml cup, with 60⁰C water and infuse for a very short time (1 minute), with 30 seconds for each re-infusion. The tea can then be re-infused 4 times.
