  • The Story of this Tea

In the wilderness of the Ai Lao Mountains, surrounded on all sides by dense forest, lies Mrs Feng’s tea garden. Planted in the 1960’s, the tea bushes here have grown into large tea trees with thick, flavourful leaves used exclusively to produce puerh – the prized tea of Yunnan province. The leaves are fired by hand over a wood fire and sun-dried to ensure a mellow texture, before being stone-pressed into tea cakes. This is a traditional method, commonly used to store and age puerh tea. To make this tea, carefully prise apart some loose leaves from the cake and infuse them Gong Fu style to reveal the tea's engaging and zesty flavour.

Where does this cup come from?

Yunnan, China

Yunnan is one of the world’s most awe-inspiring places - it’s where extremes of physical landscape and culture flourish side by side.

Spanning snow-capped peaks near 7,000 metres to lush tropical rainforests, culturally, Yunnan is equally diverse, home to many ethnic groups, each with its own rich traditions, crafts, and architectural styles that reflect the beauty of their surroundings.

To be in Yunnan is to be inspired.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I store JING tea?

All tea should be kept away from heat, light, moisture and odours. Exposure to these will cause the tea to deteriorate and lose flavour.

We recommend storing our loose teas in our beautiful Refill Caddies or its resealable ziplock bag, and store them in a cool dry place. Generally speaking, black teas and more heavily oxidized oolongs can be stored for a longer time than green, white and lightly oxidized oolong teas. Green teas, white teas and light oolong teas are best drunk within two to three months of opening.

However, they can also be stored in the fridge to maintain freshness for as long as possible. If you choose to store your green, white and light oolongs in the fridge, be careful to take the packs out a little in advance of making your tea so that they can reach room temperature. Opening a bag straight from the fridge will result in condensation on the inside of the pack, which when closed can then affect the quality of the tea inside.

How do you source your teas?

We don’t just believe that single origin and single garden teas taste better. We go direct to source to get them. Cutting out the middlemen in this way encourages transparency by increasing traceability. It also helps us to build strong relationships with producers, so we can better support them and their communities. We back this up with stringent responsible procurement processes, applicable to all of our suppliers. You can find out more here.
