Our Organic Lapsang Souchong redefines a classic. Inspired by the traditional teas of the Wuyi Mountains, we use rich Yunnan black tea, gently smoked over cherrywood in the UK. The result is exquisitely smooth yet deeply aromatic—a modern Lapsang with soft, glowing warmth.

  • The Story of this Tea

In the mountain forests of Wuyi, black tea was crafted over pine-fuelled fires, transforming bruised leaves into rich, aromatic treasures and giving birth to what we now call Lapsang Tea. For our modern interpretation, we’ve selected a supremely fragrant Yunnan black tea and carefully smoked it over cherrywood. The result is an exquisitely smooth, yet heady Lapsang that embodies the soothing warmth of a burning log’s soft glow.

Where does this cup come from?

Yunnan, China

Yunnan is one of the world’s most awe-inspiring places - it’s where extremes of physical landscape and culture flourish side by side.

Spanning snow-capped peaks near 7,000 metres to lush tropical rainforests, culturally, Yunnan is equally diverse, home to many ethnic groups, each with its own rich traditions, crafts, and architectural styles that reflect the beauty of their surroundings.

To be in Yunnan is to be inspired.

Not as fragrant or smoky as I expected

I've been craving some Lapsang Souchong, for a while now and chose to take the plunge and invest in some from Jing. I didn't really know how I felt about the concept of a Cherrywood smoked variety but decided to take the plunge nonetheless. Oh my how surprised was I. As soon as I opened the bag the kitchen started to fill with that familiar aroma, which only intensified when the tea hit the cup. After that first sip I was hooked and am now actively seeking help for this new obsession. If you are going to try this, I suggest sipping it whilst listening to Colin Hay's song, "It's a Beautiful World". It is the perfect accompaniment.

Excellent smoky taste and unique aroma

Another favourite. There is a delicate smokiness to this Lapsang so it is not quite as bold as some Lapsangs, it certainly suits my taste. I will keep on buying.

The exlixir of tea

I first tasted the cherrywood lapsang two years ago, in a tiny restaurant near the forbidden city in Beijing. The manager told me they bought the lapsang tea from Jing because it’s the best. It’s true. A sip, all senses are awake and fully appreciative of the choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I store JING tea?

All tea should be kept away from heat, light, moisture and odours. Exposure to these will cause the tea to deteriorate and lose flavour.

We recommend storing our loose teas in our beautiful Refill Caddies or its resealable ziplock bag, and store them in a cool dry place. Generally speaking, black teas and more heavily oxidized oolongs can be stored for a longer time than green, white and lightly oxidized oolong teas. Green teas, white teas and light oolong teas are best drunk within two to three months of opening.

However, they can also be stored in the fridge to maintain freshness for as long as possible. If you choose to store your green, white and light oolongs in the fridge, be careful to take the packs out a little in advance of making your tea so that they can reach room temperature. Opening a bag straight from the fridge will result in condensation on the inside of the pack, which when closed can then affect the quality of the tea inside.

What are your shipping methods and costs?

How do you source your teas?

We don’t just believe that single origin and single garden teas taste better. We go direct to source to get them. Cutting out the middlemen in this way encourages transparency by increasing traceability. It also helps us to build strong relationships with producers, so we can better support them and their communities. We back this up with stringent responsible procurement processes, applicable to all of our suppliers. You can find out more here.
