  • The Story of this Tea

Assam is rightly famous for its beautifully rich and malty black teas

Once a neglected and run-down estate, Tonganagaon was transformed into a flourishing, organic tea garden during the late 2000s. Today, the garden is home to a cultivated varietal of theassamica tea bush, prized for its large tea buds used to create the refined flavours of red berries and honey in this black tea – while maintaining the fortifying and malty character synonymous with the Assam terroir. As with our Assam Breakfast, these naturally robust qualities make it perfect for enjoying at breakfast time, with or without milk.

Where does this cup come from?

Assam, India

In the subtropical embrace of northeast India, Assam lies at the foothills of the majestic Himalayas, its rich soils nurturing an extraordinary tea legacy. The name Assam means ‘one without equal’, which is fitting for one of the most biodiverse places in the world, the home to the One Horned Rhino, elephant corridors through tea gardens, more birds than anywhere in India and some of the highest rainfalls of anywhere in the world.
Here, amidst lush tea gardens, the harmony of nature and craftsmanship delivers a morning ritual that awakens the senses and celebrates the essence of this revered region.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I store JING tea?

All tea should be kept away from heat, light, moisture and odours. Exposure to these will cause the tea to deteriorate and lose flavour.

We recommend storing our loose teas in our beautiful Refill Caddies or its resealable ziplock bag, and store them in a cool dry place. Generally speaking, black teas and more heavily oxidized oolongs can be stored for a longer time than green, white and lightly oxidized oolong teas. Green teas, white teas and light oolong teas are best drunk within two to three months of opening.

However, they can also be stored in the fridge to maintain freshness for as long as possible. If you choose to store your green, white and light oolongs in the fridge, be careful to take the packs out a little in advance of making your tea so that they can reach room temperature. Opening a bag straight from the fridge will result in condensation on the inside of the pack, which when closed can then affect the quality of the tea inside.

How do you source your teas?

We don’t just believe that single origin and single garden teas taste better. We go direct to source to get them. Cutting out the middlemen in this way encourages transparency by increasing traceability. It also helps us to build strong relationships with producers, so we can better support them and their communities. We back this up with stringent responsible procurement processes, applicable to all of our suppliers. You can find out more here.
