A highlight of our 2023 spring sourcing trip, this mostly undiscovered yellow tea dates back to the Tang dynasty. With production now revitalised with modern techniques you'll find candied lemon, barley and a laid back green-ish character.

Skilled tea masters have been making their version of yellow tea in Beigang, Yueyang City in Hunan for centuries. Until recently it's mostly been unknown outside its local area. Master Wang Yueshi is one of the a few locals working hard to revitalise Beigang Yellow Tea as a counterpoint to the more famous Jun Shan Silver Needle from the same region. It packs a brighter punch compared to Jun Shan with its citrus sweetness, It's a great introduction to this mellow and complex tea category.

The perfect cup

  • Measure 4g or 2 tsp per cup (250ml)
  • Heat water to 80°C
  • Infuse tea for 3 minutes
  • You can re-infuse this tea twice
